Example 3 : Main office and remote locations

In the main office you are running your business software and database. The other offices are located somewhere else in the neighborhood, city, state or somewhere else in the world.
You could try to install your business software and your database on two or more different locations, including a duplication of your business database, but this might give you all kind of problems. Most likely it is not possible.
Next to this, your employees are on the road. They have laptops and can only use dialin connections via phone for a connection to the main office.

Solution

Remote locations are allowed to have a Remote Desktop sessions with the central WXP-Pro-PC in the main office. These remote sessions are used for making the business software available on all desired locations.
Those remote locations do have their own printers. With a remote desktop sessions it is possible to run the business software on the WXP-Pro-PC in the main office, and to print on a local printer.
The employees on the road are also allowed to have a remote desktop sessions. Despite the use of dialin connections, it is quite secure to use remote desktop sessions. The Microsoft RDP-protocol is default encrypted. Next to this, a remote desktop session always requires the user to login with a name and a password. Additional one can consider the use of smartcards for the verification of the users.
